As of this morning, it will cost you another quarter to cross the Ambassador Bridge, but Windsor West MP Brian Masse is trying have the decision reversed.
In July of last year, the bridge hiked the cost of crossing from $4 to $4.75, and today it’s expected to hit $5.
Masse says Windsor commuters are already paying too much, compared to what other border crossings charge. “And on top of that, it’s going to add up to a lot of money. Millions of dollars, annually, out of the community, that would otherwise go toward stimulus to help other businesses and other types of organizations. This additional tax is just unacceptable.”
The NDP MP has written a letter to transport minister, Lisa Raitt, asking her to cease the increase under the Bridge and Tunnel Act. He’s then suggesting the minister ask to see a business plan from the bridge company, and have it reviewed by a third party.
