Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Prentis Edwards imprisoned Matty Moroun and DIBC President Dan Stamper to prison until the Gateway is complete.

Edwards said he needs to impose meaningful sanctions in order to ensure the Gateway Project is completed as per a court order.

Edwards rejected a defense motion to stay the decision.

He also ordered DIBC a $7500 fine and pay MDOT’s legal fees.

Edwards decided against appointing a receiver to complete the Gateway Project because he said such a ruling will only lead to more litigation. He said Moroun, Stamper, and Matthew Moroun have the power to comply with his order.

“The Detroit International Bridge Company disregarded the court’s right to have court order enforced, and most importantly disregarded the rights of the public who are the intended beneficiaries of the Ambassador Bridge Gateway Project,” said Edwards.

The Gateway is a $230 million public-private partnership designed to improve freeway access to the Ambassador Bridge.

DIBC was held in civil contempt for second time late last year for failure attempt to comply with Feb. 2010 order of court.
